I'm writing this immediately after watching The Wailing so I'm still trying to make sense of the ending. But from what I can tell so far the ending twist isn't just a plot twist, its a mythos twist as well.

The entire mythology that the film is based off of gets thrown on its head right at the end. Leaving one questing what was really happening the entire time.

Who was the good guy? Who was the bad guy? Who was caught in between? It leaves these questions open in a way that is both artful and thought provoking.

It's never quite clear what exactly was going on even at the very end. And while in some cases this sabotages a plot, The Wailing manages to make an incredible show of it.

The acting was good and the effects flowed well with the rest of the film. Even the dynamics of the camera and the transitions between scenes very much helped to build the mood and keep everything tense.

A worthy title and a great horror movie. This movie had potential but it was far too long and kept rehashing the same idea over and over again with no real movement towards a conclusion.

I watched it with subtitles and was really excited as I loved other foreign films of a similar nature Train to Busan being one of them but this film fell vastly short of anything beyond a waste of time.

It starts off appearing like it will be strong and interesting, then declines quickly, leaving the viewer hoping for a redemption of the characters and plot only to be left feeling as if the over 2 hour view time should have been spent doing anything else.

Like eye bleach, pick a different movie! Well-made Korean horror film, I was surprised how good it was. I liked how the opening scenes and even a decent way into the movie the film was very relatable, with the supernatural aspects slowly unfolding as the movie progressed.

There is also a nice twist or too, not a twist for the sake of a twist but integral to the plot. The movie is set in a small South Korean village, Gokseong, a small-town set amidst pretty wooded mountains where people hunt deer and enjoy mountain streams.

I've watched it in the cinema and on blu-ray and you really need to see it a couple of times to string together the convoluted plot which I still haven't fully worked out yet but as the movie goes on the tension mounts and the scariness increases - its difficult to explain exactly what it is that is creates the fear but it gets in your head and just builds.

A long and not-easy watch but well worth the effort which is what I would also say about Yellow Sea and The Chaser - both of which are outstanding.

It is difficult to say why this movie gets under your skin, but it truly does. The story is at once scary, interesting, and unpredictable, keeping you guessing what exactly is going on and who the good and the bad are until the very last minute.

Pace, filming and acting are all top-notch, you can really feel that everyone involved in this movie have given their best.

After lulling you into a false sense of security with black comedy in its first hour, what follows is an intense, intelligent horror. The viewer never knows more than the protagonist at any point and you are both kept guessing right to the very end.

It's very long at 2 and a half hours, but the payoff is well worth the wait. A fantastic film that deserves to be seen - don't be put off by the subtitles or length.
