It wasn't good and it wasn't scary either. I'm a big fan of horror movies, but there wasn't anything here that was particularly scary or thought-provoking.

In general I find that found-footage movies are poor--an excuse to make a movie with a low budget, bad actors, and weak script--and this is really no different.

The various horror vignettes mostly consist of actors in their early to late 20's unwittingly falling victim to some sort of sadistic force while filming parts of a road-trip or vacation, where they're eventually surprise attacked and disemboweled right before their camcorder shuts off for its final recorded scene.

The vignettes within vignettes theme doesn't build upon itself, instead it just seems like one random incident after another a bunch of vhs tapes in a disturbed man's "viewing room" , and what should be the movie's climax, or "grand finale," is surprisingly given the least attention of all the stories.

Each thief is left alone in the room at some point and becomes involved in watching one of the vhs tapes. When the story on the tape ends, the thief is no longer there in the room.

You're left to assume something bad happened to him, and that the dead guy in the chair really isn't dead.

By the end there's one thief left and he gets killed by the guy in the chair shortly after realizing all of his other thief friends have been murdered too.

But it all happens very anti-climactically and quickly. Little attention was paid to this part of the story, which would seem to be the most important moment in the overall story.

Instead, it's pushed aside for one more unrelated snuff film which, at this point, have become tiresome and boring to watch. Though I don't enjoy watching people's throats being slit or intestines ripped out, this kind of thing doesn't really scare me, it just makes me cringe a little bit.

I don't know if it's been an exceptionally grim two decades for the scary-movie genre, but there's no reason this movie should be on anybody's "Top" list.

All sorts of people told me I'd like this one - wasn't having it. My loss. Who knew? The whole Blair ugh Witch, The Ring again, ugh. Call me Old School What should've been a pretentious empty bag turned out to be very fun and entertaining.

The premise well executed ,blood and guts, nudity and some genuine thrills and shocks made for a good flick.

Man, I hate being the last to know This low budget collection of short horror films proves once again that a truly gifted director and writer can make compelling films on a high school play budget.

There are about 5 short pieces wrapped by an enclosing narrative, each with a different director and cast. The opening short story is worth the price of admission No sir, this film is down right creepy, absolutely horrifying and even intentionally funny.

But don't expect to do much laughing. Thos is one very disturbing and highly original shocker. The sequel is not quite as good; one of the stories late in the film probably shouldn't have been included.

But even the sequel has moments that you won't easily forget. Overall, inspired extremely creative dark subversive stuff.

I can't tell you how much I wanted to fast-forward through some parts of this movie. The pacing is excruciating.

It also doesn't help that a lot of the characters are such reprehensible jerks. The above having been said, this is an anthology, and a few of the short subject films really do deserve a look, though I did find some to be pretty dull.

The highlight for me was the excellent "Tuesday the 17th" story that was easily worth the price of admission all on its own.

We're back to being boring with "Second Honeymoon," because I just couldn't get into that one.

I recommend giving this movie a try because there are some bits that really are very nice, but I will also recommend skipping past the dull bits because they really do get boring to the point where they colour the entire viewing experience.

One person found this helpful. I only heard of this film a few months ago and liked the sound of it. It lived up to the hype, for me. The framing sequence is effective, the first story is very good, the second is slower-paced but has a better quality picture and a great ending.

The third story is weird and i couldn't quite understand it but it's still effective. The fourth tale was the weakest for me, but the final one deliver.

Great film overall, and i look forward to seeing the sequels. Report abuse. Yes we are all getting a bit tired with 'found tapes' type films but this is sort of different.

First a group of really unlikable hoodlums are hired by an unknown third party to break and enter an isolated house they are usually isolated with no phone cover aren't they where they have to steal a VHS tape, they are told they will know which one it is.

Once they get inside the house they discover the corpse of an old man in an upstairs room facing a bank of televisions. Then they discover that there are quite a few VHS tapes in the house already and will either take the lot or sort through them.

Well they start to play one and it is a found tape itself which ends in a nasty way, still unperturbed they put on yet more and the footage gets worse.

This is different as I said as it has been written and directed by 10 different people, this reflects that all the tapes are mini horrors in their own right and they are all pretty much seasoned in their art both the writers and directors.

The concept also allows for the quality of the camera work etc to change and yet never affect the continuity of the actual plot.

Still that is par for the course and all adds to the fun. There is a fair smattering of nudity but none of it really sexy and bordering on gratuitous some could argue.

A must for most horror fans - recommended. Weird collection of events with some pretty good sections.

A group of oddball yanks end up in a derelict house with a dead man slouched in front of a television and surrounded by video tapes. It all develops from that.

Die Schauspieler sind allesamt unbekannt, machen ihre Sache aber mehr als gut. Die Bild- und Tonqualität kann ich nicht wirklich bewerten, da hier mit den verschiedensten Kameras unter den verschiedensten Bedingungen gedreht wurde.

Bildrauschen, blasse Farben und viel Wackelei gehören hier zum Stilmittel. Die deutsche Synchronisation ist richtig klasse geworden, was dem Film extrem gut tut.

Eine Wendecover und ein paar Bonusfeatures sind auch an Bord. Die Idee als solche ist wirklich klasse und ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass sie derart funktioniert.

Vor allem gehen die ersten beiden Episoden richtig ab. Ich war stellenweise wie gebannt vor dem Fernseher. Wenn die Macher dieses Niveau gehalten hätten, dann wäre der Film einfach nur der Wahnsinn.

Leider driftet er dann aber mit zwei schwächeren Episoden ein wenig ab, was mich wieder auf dem Boden der Tatsachen zurückgeholt hat.

Da konnte dann auch die recht gute letzte Episode nicht mehr alles geradebiegen, was ich sehr schade finde. Dennoch bietet der Film jeden Fan des Genres mindestens eine Episode, die man gut finden muss.

Daher sollte der geneigte Horrorfan hier auf jeden Fall reinschauen. Von mir gibt es acht Punkte. Andererseits setzt uns die niemals stillstehende Handkamera einem latenten Brechreiz aus.
